Cockles

Biggest daughter and I collected a bucket of cockles from the beach at Cleethorpes

We got them home and scrubbed them clean. Then put them into clean water with 20g of salt per litre overnight so they could poo out sand and mud. Picked out and chucked all the shells that didn't shut when I stirred them up (as they obviously weren't healthy/alive)

We had never cooked our own cockles, so didn't know what to do. We just chopped up onions and garlic, mixed that in with the cockles and steamed them until they opened. My goodness they tasted good
